Hi Friends,
We're thrilled to announce another successful weekend for the CommUNITY Activities Program (CAP). Kiddos are coming in droves and we're serving a lot of hard-to-reach families! City Councilor Amanda Grady-Seton visited the program on Saturday, March 2nd and congratulated Parks and Recreation for "meeting a clear need in the community".
Currently, we're told that the program is at max capacity for both the 10+ age group and the adult supervised group. Parks and Recreation staff have waitlisted dozens of kiddos, and due to the cap on the "adult supervised group", they've had to turn away parents/guardians who have come to register and supervise their children in the program. The gym space is heavily used by CAP participants - there's often 2-3 pick-up basketball or soccer games going at any given time. Whereas, the arts & games room is seemingly underutilized with an average of 0-3 participants. There are multiple issues to be ironed out so we'll be discussing in depth at our monthly meeting on March 6th, 6pm.
We have a ways to go in creating the best possible outcome for this program and we really need YOUR help!:
Become a CAP Volunteer! The next volunteer training will be held on March 11th 5pm at the City Wide Community Center (1-hour in length).
Help problem solve policy and programmatic issues at our Monthly Meeting on Wednesday, March 6th 6pm (online links below). If you are a CAP volunteer please try your best to attend! RSVP here.
A HUGE thank you to Parks and Rec staff, CAP volunteers, and Charm with Project STORY who have put in so much effort to make this a success.
Gratefully,
Meredith with Friends of Keach Park
